Trying to make sense of Quebec's renovation grants? Between LogisVert, Rénoclimat, and the former Chauffez vert program, the acronyms all look alike, but they don't cover the same work or the same amounts at all. This guide clearly explains what each program funds, who runs it, how much you can receive depending on your project, and above all in what order to plan your renovations to maximize your grant without making mistakes. The goal isn't to sell you a dream, but to give you concrete bearings so you can decide.

What is LogisVert and who runs it?

LogisVert is Hydro-Québec's financial assistance program, launched in 2024, to support residential energy efficiency. Unlike a credit applied to your bill, LogisVert pays a direct rebate to the customer, usually by mail after installation and approval of the file. The program covers heat pumps, thermal storage systems (ETS), efficient pool pumps and solar heating, induction stoves, heat pump dryers, as well as roof insulation and weatherstripping.

Since May 1, 2024, it's LogisVert that took over funding for heating systems (heat pumps and geothermal), assistance that previously fell under Rénoclimat. To be eligible, you must be a residential Hydro-Québec customer (or of an off-grid, municipal, or cooperative electricity distribution network in Quebec), and your home must be located in Quebec and used for residential purposes. The LogisVert online portal is available in French only.

How much does LogisVert give depending on the type of heat pump?

The LogisVert grant calculation for a heat pump is based on the heating capacity measured at -8 °C (and not at the rated point), which is essential to understand when estimating your amount. For a wall-mounted or central air-to-air heat pump certified ENERGY STAR (standard model), the grant is $50 per 1,000 BTU/h at -8 °C. If the unit is rated "cold climate," the amount rises to $120 per 1,000 BTU/h at -8 °C. For an eligible multi-unit residential building, a bonus of $100 per 1,000 BTU/h is added, potentially bringing the total to $220 per 1,000 BTU/h at -8 °C.

For geothermal, the relevant figure on the homeowner side is $250 per 1,000 BTU/h, with a cap of $18,000 per address, in effect since August 25, 2025. You may see a scale of $750 per 1,000 BTU/h circulating (capped at $54,000, the equivalent of a 6-ton or 72,000 BTU/h unit): that one is meant for the installation company or partner builder, not the residential customer. Don't confuse the two. As for the central air-to-water (hydronic) heat pump, the exact amount per 1,000 BTU/h is not confirmed on an official page at the time of writing: refer to the LogisVert scale in effect on the portal before pricing out your project.

How does a Rénoclimat project work and what's covered?

Rénoclimat is a Government of Quebec program, administered by the Ministère de l'Environnement, de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques, de la Faune et des Parcs. It now targets the building envelope: insulation, air sealing, doors and windows, ventilation. Since May 1, 2024, Rénoclimat no longer subsidizes the installation of a heating system (that assistance moved to LogisVert), but assistance for insulation and air sealing was enhanced in exchange. The program has no announced end date and is still accepting new applications.

  1. Registration: appointment request through the online form (in French); a Rénoclimat advisor usually calls you back within 3 weeks.
  2. Energy assessment BEFORE work: home visit, blower door test to establish the EnerGuide rating, photos. The advisor provides a report with recommendations and your file number.
  3. Carrying out the recommended work (insulation, air sealing, windows, ventilation). Critical rule: any work started BEFORE the first assessment is NOT eligible.
  4. Energy assessment AFTER work: new blower door test, verification of invoices and photos. The EnerGuide rating must have improved.
  5. File analysis: roughly 8 to 10 weeks, then add about 2 weeks for the cheque to be mailed out.

The energy assessment costs $150 plus taxes per visit, but this amount is reimbursed to you when the grant is paid if eligible subsidized work is completed; the first assessment after work is free. No delay is imposed between the before-work and after-work assessments, which gives you time to organize the job site.

What Rénoclimat amounts apply to insulation, air sealing, and windows?

The amounts vary depending on the area treated and the performance achieved. For insulation, you generally need to cover at least 20% of the surface of the targeted component (roof, walls, foundation). Here are the indicative ranges from the verified scale.

  • Attic / loft: $50 to $1,500.
  • Above-grade exterior walls: $450 to $3,750.
  • Foundation / basement walls (exterior): $250 to $2,500.
  • Basement rim joists: $200 to $250 (at least 80% of the surface to be insulated).
  • Exterior crawl space walls: $200 to $2,000; floor above a crawl space: $500; exposed floor: $380.
  • Air sealing: $400 (target met), $600 (target exceeded by 10%), $800 (target exceeded by 20%).
  • Heat recovery ventilator (HRV): $500; drain water heat recovery unit: $120 to $180.
  • ENERGY STAR certified doors and windows: $150 per opening replaced.

For the HRV, be careful: you must carry out other energy-efficient work in addition to the ventilation, otherwise consumption may rise and make the measure ineligible. Eligible homes are single-family houses, duplexes, triplexes, and small multi-unit buildings (maximum 3 above-grade storeys, ground area of 600 m² or less), built and occupied for at least 12 months, with at least 50% of the floor area used for residential purposes.

Is the Chauffez vert program still available?

Chauffez vert targeted the conversion of a central oil- or propane-fired heating system to electricity (or a renewable energy source). It was a Government of Quebec assistance program, which required removal of the fuel tank, complete dismantling of the furnace or boiler, and installation of a new electric or renewable system, all carried out by a contractor holding a valid RBQ licence. According to the scale in effect, the assistance could reach about $1,275 for a heating system and $250 for a water heater.

Important point for 2026: the oil/propane conversion component of Chauffez vert ended on March 31, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. for application submissions, with a deadline of June 30, 2026 to send in supporting documents. Over nearly 14 years, the program paid out close to $90 million to more than 64,000 Quebec households. If you're converting an oil heating system to a heat pump today, it's now LogisVert you need to turn to, possibly combined with a federal program depending on your income.

How do you stack the programs and in what order?

LogisVert can be stacked with Rénoclimat and, when it was active, with Chauffez vert, as well as with certain federal grants. The exact total amount depends on your project and the scales in effect for each program. But beyond stacking the dollars, it's the ORDER of the work that determines the success of your renovation. Hydro-Québec estimates that roughly 75% of a home's heat is lost through the thermal envelope (roofs, walls, floors, windows), with air infiltration and ventilation accounting for the remaining 25%.

A high-performance heat pump is useless if the heat escapes through the walls.

LogisVert principle — insulation first, heating second

In concrete terms, the recommended order is as follows: start with the envelope (insulation and air sealing, funded by Rénoclimat), then install your heating system (heat pump or geothermal, funded by LogisVert). By treating the envelope first, you reduce your home's heating load, which often allows you to install a smaller, and therefore less expensive, heat pump. Since the LogisVert grant is calculated per 1,000 BTU/h, sizing correctly after insulating avoids paying for unnecessary capacity. Also think about the administrative sequencing: the Rénoclimat BEFORE-work assessment must take place before any insulation work, otherwise your work becomes ineligible.

What common mistakes should you avoid?

  • Starting Rénoclimat work before the first energy assessment: anything done before that visit is not eligible.
  • Confusing the geothermal scales: $250/1,000 BTU/h is for the residential customer, while $750/1,000 BTU/h is for the partner installation company.
  • Hiring a contractor without a valid RBQ licence: most programs (LogisVert, Rénoclimat, Chauffez vert) require an RBQ licence and registration with the Registraire des entreprises du Québec; an unlicensed contractor makes your application ineligible.
  • Missing the submission deadline: for LogisVert, you have 9 months after installation to submit your application.
  • Installing a heat pump without having insulated: you oversize the unit and pay for heating that escapes through the envelope.

Checking a contractor's licence takes less than 30 seconds: the RBQ licence holders' register is freely accessible online, by licence number (format XXXX-XXXX-XX) or by company name. There you'll see the licence classes, the bond ($20,000 for a specialized contractor, $40,000 for a general one), and the claims history. Hiring without a licence means losing these protections and weakening your recourse, on top of making your grant applications ineligible.

Frequently asked questions

Can I still apply for Chauffez vert in 2026? No. Application submissions for the oil/propane conversion component ended on March 31, 2026, and submission of supporting documents on June 30, 2026. To replace an oil heating system, now turn to LogisVert (heat pump) and, where applicable, to a federal program depending on your income.

Does Rénoclimat still fund heat pumps? No, not since May 1, 2024. Assistance for heating systems (heat pumps, geothermal) was redirected to Hydro-Québec's LogisVert. Rénoclimat now focuses on insulation, air sealing, ventilation, and doors and windows.

When do I need to submit my LogisVert application? The application is made after installation, online through the portal (in French), and you must submit it within nine months of the equipment installation date. Have your proof of eligibility, your purchase and installation invoices, and photos of the unit's nameplate ready.

Is an RBQ licence absolutely required to receive the grants? Yes. The company must be registered with the Registraire des entreprises du Québec and hold the appropriate licences from the Régie du bâtiment du Québec. A contractor without a valid licence makes your application ineligible, regardless of the program.

Amounts and conditions change regularly: the geothermal scale changed on August 25, 2025, and the bonuses for smart equipment were adjusted on March 31, 2025. Before submitting an application or signing a contract, always confirm the scales in effect with the official sources: Hydro-Québec for LogisVert, the Ministère de l'Environnement (formerly Transition énergétique Québec) for Rénoclimat, and the Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ) for contractor licences. They are the ones that govern in case of doubt.
