Geothermal

Geothermal draws the stable heat of the ground through buried loops — the most efficient heating system in Québec, with a LogisVert rebate of CA$750 per 1,000 BTU/h.

How Geothermal installation works

  1. A site study assesses the ground and the available area to determine the loop type (horizontal or vertical boreholes).

  2. The trenches or boreholes are dug; the loops are laid and connected.

  3. The geothermal heat pump is installed indoors, often in the mechanical room.

  4. The system is pressurised, commissioned and tested.

  5. The LogisVert application is submitted to Hydro-Québec after installation.

Benefits of Geothermal

  • Hydro-Québec LogisVert rebate — CA$750 per 1,000 BTU/h, with no standard residential cap
  • Higher performance than air-source heat pumps thanks to the stable ground temperature
  • Quiet operation — no noisy outdoor unit
  • Geothermal loops last 50 years and more
  • Heating in winter and cooling in summer from a single installation
  • Installed by an RBQ-licensed contractor enrolled in LogisVert

Typical cost

Typically CA$25,000–CA$45,000 installed, before assistance (well drilling included)

Costs vary significantly depending on property size, existing systems, and installer. A surveyor's assessment will give you an accurate figure. Available grants (listed below) can substantially reduce the net cost.

Ideal for

  • Properties with enough land for horizontal loops or vertical boreholes
  • New builds where the loops can be installed during construction
  • Homes replacing oil, propane or electric-baseboard heating
  • Owners seeking the most efficient and most discreet system
